INSTAGRAM has been given a fresh lick of paint.

The U.S. social media app began rolling out a visual makeover last week that tweaked its colours, typeface and logo.

Instagram said that the refresh is designed to help create “more immersive and inclusive experiences” for users.

Among the changes introduced on May 23 is a new, brighter icon that sports the app’s enlivened “colour gradient”.

It’s effectively the same icon as before but illuminated, a change that’s reflected across the app’s design.

The brighter colour palette also appears in Create mode, stickers and on Instagram’s Story rings.

Instagram said that the new gradient was crafted using 3D modelling “to make it feel illuminated and alive.”

The social media titan also rolled out a new typography, “Instagram Sans,” that will be used on its billboards, websites and more.

It will appear in Stories and Reels and is designed to be easy to read no matter where you’re from.

“We partnered with language experts around the world to adapt the typeface to global scripts including Arabic, Thai and Japanese,” Instagram said.

“We want to support all of our creators and community members who push culture forward to express themselves fully in any language they choose.”

The company said that its new design puts content first by showcasing full-screen imagery.

They might be small changes in the grand scheme of things, but it’s Instagram’s first visual redesign in a while.

Instagram said: “We’re bringing new energy and purpose to our colours, typeface, logo and other brand elements with a refreshed visual identity.

“Our new system is designed to embrace continued evolution to help us create more immersive and inclusive experiences for our community.”

It follows a strange Instagram bug that last week blocked some users from viewing direct messages.
