Netflix is handing out ‘Exploding Kittens’ and three other mobile games to subscribers

A fourth based on a popular tabletop game will be released on the app next week.

Netflix has made video games a key focus as it tries to make more cash amid tumbling subscriber numbers.

The firm last month announced that it was teaming up with tabletop game Exploding Kittens for a mobile game and animated series.

In a tweet on Tuesday, the firm confirmed that the mobile version will launch on the Netflix app on May 31.

The animated series is coming a little later down the line, sometime in 2023.

The three games that joined Netflix’s games catalogue on Tuesday are: Dragon Up, Moonlighter, and Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt.

All three games are available for free to all Netflix subscribers whether they’re on Android or iOS.

To download the new games, head to the dedicated game tab or type “games” into the search bar.

You can then select which game to download. Each game will be available to play via its own dedicated app.

It’s the latest move by Netflix that signals its intention to bet big on video games.

The company is plotting to break into the video games industry as it seeks new ways to draw in paying subscribers.

Last May, The Information reported that Netflix is working on its own platform that could include a games bundle similar to Apple Arcade.

Apple Arcade offers paying subscribers access to a library of dozens of games that they can stream to their devices over the internet.

The move comes at a time when the gaming industry is booming.

It has benefited from a surge in demand from gamers staying at home during the Covid-19 pandemic.
