GREGGS has warned that prices on its bakery shelves will go up AGAIN – and it’s all thanks to inflation.

The good news for fans though, is that the fast food giant has confirmed plans to open 50 new branches.

Prices on Greggs’ bakery shelves could go up

Greggs bosses have confirmed that some prices could go up by as much as 10%, but others “won’t move up at all”.

Cost pressures and growing demand all have a part to play in the hike laid on high street shoppers after a quick snack.

And even supply issues have impacted Greggs, adding to the pricing moves, as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine means wheat is in short supply or only available at a high cost.

Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside said: “We see ourselves as value leaders in the food-to-go market, and that market has been forced to put prices up, we are no different.”

The bakery big-wig reassured that Greggs would “always” be “the best value”, though.

The chain’s most popular savoury breakfast products, like its sausage roll staple, are the most likely to see a rise in price.

No products have yet been confirmed to go up in price but earlier in the year, some goods saw a rise of 5p to 10p – so it wouldn’t be the first time the bakery giant has upped costs for customers to pay.

Pastry fans were left disappointed when the firm hiked the price of its sausage rolls by 5p in January.

Most of Greggs’ range is made in-house, which means there is some flexibility in how it prices up its products as inflation hits.

But just like plenty of other firms and customers alike, Greggs has been clobbered by rising costs for everything from energy to food stock.

That’s not stinted its plans to expand throughout the year though.

Greggs will even open a flagship megastore this summer as part of the bakery chain’s expansion plans – fueling more fan excitement.

The new store openings follow the chain recently unveiling its biggest branch so far in Primark – where it launched a clothing range with the major fashion chain as well.
