But you’ll have to act fast as there’s just one week left claim the bonus.

Banks often give away a “bonus” to customers who switch over to them from another bank.

Halifax is currently offering £125 if you move to its Reward account.

But the deadline for moving your bank account is Monday, May 9 so it means you’ve got just days left to make the switch and bag the free money.

You’ll need to use the Current Account Switching Service (CASS) to move account which means closing your old one.

It’s free to use and they manage most of the process for you.

You’ll also need to be eligible for the Halifax Reward Account, including paying in at least £1,500 a month, otherwise there’s a £3 monthly fee.

You can also get the bonus moving to the Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account, but that comes with a hefty £17 monthly fee.

You won’t get the cash if you move to any other Halifax account, or if you’ve already had cashback for switching to Halifax since April 2020.

Existing Halifax customers can also get the cashback moving to the Reward account, as long as they haven’t had a bonus before and use the CASS.

You’ll also want to check that the rest of the account suits your needs too, such as interest rates on savings, overdraft fees and cash withdrawal limits abroad.

Halifax’s account also offers rewards like cinema tickets worth £5 a month, 15% cashback and an interest-free overdraft for the first six months.

It’s also worth noting that just because this offer from Halifax is ending, it doesn’t mean it’s gone forever or that other banks might not start offering the reward, so keep your eyes peeled.

Plus there are other bonus offers out there right now.

Nationwide is also offering up to £125 switching bonus when you move to its FlexPlus, FlexDirect or FlexAccount account and First Direct is offering £150.

HSBC’s switching bonus offer of £175 closed last week.

Under the Current Account Switching Service, swapping banks should take seven working days.

That includes all your payments, direct debits and standing orders being moved too.

Just open your new account and then ask your new provider to close your old account using the switch service.

Make sure you are eligible. Most accounts have certain requirements, such as paying in a minimum amount of cash each month.

And watch your overdraft. Check your new bank will offer you the same limit — and does not have higher costs for using it.
