A ROMANTIC home labelled a “wonderful fixer upper” has hit the market for less than £40,000 – but the house has a rather unhomely secret lying in wait.

Sold “as is”, the agents say the classic wooden home offers a fantastic “investment opportunity” for would be buyers.

the home boasts a kitchen, living room with a large log-burner, one bedroom, one bathroom and an attached studio

Set in over 6,000 square feet of Aiken, South Carolina, the home – built in 1918 – is currently a one bed property.

But agent Zillow insist the gorgeous wood panelled abode has “plenty of room for another bedroom or open floor plan” to make it a three-bed.

In all, the US home boasts a kitchen, living room with a large log-burner, one bedroom, one bathroom and an attached studio.

Because once the unsuspecting buyer steps inside the $50,000 home – down $10,000 from last year – it is clear it needs a fair few bucks thrown at it, and fast.

Stepping through the front door, would-be buyers are greeted with shredded curtains that adorn rotting windows which also have glass panes missing.

While doors appear to have been torn off their hinges and left leaning up against tired walls.

Old, dusty floorboards cover the floor in every room and there is evidence of a leak in a number of corners.

The lino floor in the kitchen is absolutely shredded and exposes the filthy floorboards underneath – the same carnage can be seen in the living room.

And the paint colours are also a sight for sore eyes, with harsh lime greens and dull maroons covering the walls and kitchen cabinets.

And it doesn’t get any better out back – as the exterior wood appears knackered and in need of fair few coats of paint.

Both the front and back garden could also do with some landscaping.

The house did not go unnoticed however, as Reddit users flocked to the social media platform to share their thoughts on the dilapidated home.

One joked: “Sure! with a bulldozer and some huge dumpsters!”

Another chimed: “A screen, some paint, and an uncontrolled fire and you’d have something there!”

While another admitted: “I grew up in the Deep South, and I’m weirdly nostalgic for this type of house.”

Despite all of this, the agents reckon the lucky buyer has a “possible two unit rental” on their hands.
