The Easter bank holiday weekend is fast approaching and eggs are flying off the shelves, with many now unavailable to order online.

But choc fans have the chance to get their paws on a free Easter egg this weekend.

Smyths Toys is hosting an egg hunt event for children at no charge.

We asked the chain if there was an age cap on the event and we will update this article when we hear back.

But Smyths Toy store has so far told us: “We welcome everyone to our stores to enjoy the event but we must note that while we do our best to accommodate everyone, our events are catered towards younger children.”

There’s 90 stores in the UK in total, and each one will be opening its doors to hungry hunters at around 9am, but shoppers should check what time their local branch is opening before visiting.

You can find your local branch by using the store locator on its website.

The event will run until 2pm, or until there’s no stock left.

Children will be given a clue sheet to follow in store, and on completion they will be awarded with a free Easter egg.

There will be one egg provided per participating child – but the store hasn’t revealed which egg this will be.

Customers can’t sign up to the event ahead of time.

Instead, they have to turn up on the day.

This may mean that there are queues to get in – so be prepared for this in advance.

And note that the event can only run while stocks last, so if you go later in the day, there may not be any free eggs left.

The chain has also announced that entry to the Easter egg hunt will give each participant the chance to win a free 10ft trampoline worth £159.99.

And speaking of freebies, Tesco shoppers can get a free Creme egg or Maltesers bunny with a ‘secret’ code.
