MCDONALD’S is launching a new chicken burger with posh ingredients like truffle mayo and a sourdough bun.

The Crispy McFillet will be available for a limited time at just 50 McDonald’s branches where the dish is being trialled.

McDonald’s Crispy McFillet is only at selected stores

The new McDonald’s menu item contains a crunchy chicken fillet, lettuce, mayonnaise with a truffle flavour, and is sandwiched between a sourdough-style bun.

The Crispy McFillet will be available only at a limited number of stores, located in the Midlands and Northern Ireland, for 14 weeks (see the full list below).

If it’s a hit with customers the fast food chain said it could roll the burger out to more locations later in the year.

Despite the fancier ingredients, you can get the new chicken burger for a reasonable £4.19 on its own, or £5.59 as part of a medium-sized meal which comes with fries and a drink.

It’s more than you’ll pay for a Big Mac or a McChicken Sandwich, which costs £3.39, depending on where you are, but the same price as the Chicken Legend and Homestyle Crispy Chicken.

Michelle Graham-Clare, from McDonald’s said: “We know how much our customers love our iconic chicken menu items, so we’ve taken our time to get the Crispy McFillet packed with flavour, to really satisfy our customers.

“We really believe this newest addition to our menu is the tastiest chicken burger in the UK and Ireland and we cannot wait to hear what our customers in the Midlands think of it.”

McDonald’s claims the Crispy McFillet is crispier and crunchier than any other chicken burger on its menu.

It’s not the first time that McDonald’s has launched a posh menu item.

In December 2016 it launched its ‘Signature’ burgers, with thicker patties in brioche buns – but the range was ditched a couple of years later.

McDonald’s chefs have created several new chicken burgers recently.

The fast food chain launched the Chicken Big Mac, but for a limited time only.

After appearing on menus in February it was so popular that it sold out leaving fans devastated.

The chicken version of the iconic Big Mac returned, but was only temporary and left menus on March 15.

Currently Maccies has the Homestyle Crispy Chicken burger on it’s menu, which comes with a hot and spicy mayo, cheese and bacon, although it’s not a permanent fixture.

It hit menus for the first time last year for six weeks only, and will be available for a limited time this spring, along with the popular Big Tasty.

Last year the McSpicy burger also made its debut – but Maccies fans slammed the KFC Zinger burger rival as “mild” and “underwhelming”.

The classic McChicken Sandwich, first launched in the 1980s, is available all year round and nationwide.

The Chicken Legend, which comes in a toasted bakehouse roll, finally returned to the McDonald’s menu in February after it was taken off menu last year due to supply issues – much to the relief of Legend fans.
