COSTA Coffee has sneakily hiked hot drink prices by up to 6% as the cost of living crisis continues to bite.

The UK’s biggest coffee chain has added up to 15p onto coffee prices in high street branches and 10p at self-service machines at Costa Express branches.

The increases mean a small latte or cappuccino has risen in price from £2.35 to £2.50 and a flat white from £2.45 to £2.60.

At Costa Express machines where punters pour their own drinks, the prices have also gone up.

A cappuccino, latte, mocha, hot chocolate and Americano has increased from £2.40 to £2.50 for a regular and from £2.70 to £2.80 for a large.

The hike comes just weeks after industry boffins warned a mix of poor harvests, supply chain problems and higher transport costs has sent the global cost of coffee beans rocketing.

Costa has some 2,681 outlets across the country, despite axing scores of stores during the pandemic plus a further 10,000 self-serve machines.

The increases come just two years after the chain jacked prices up by 10% in early 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Those rises came in despite coffee bean prices hitting a 13-year low and after The Sun revealed the outfit had changed cup sizes so drinkers would get a third less.

The increases will hit Brits already battling a cost of living crisis.

Martyn James of the consumer complaints group, resolver.co.uk, said: “This price hikes at Costa are just another reminder that the cost of coffee is going to rocket this year.“

Little treats like that daily coffee on the morning commute or trip to the shops is going to start hitting people in the pocket especially as the cost of living crisis continues to bite.”

Costa confirmed the price rises but declined to comment further.

The firm is the latest brand to bring in price hikes as rising inflation is pushing up costs across the board for Brits.

Inflation hit 5.5% this week, as the costs of energy bills, transport and petrol prices have all soared.

Last month, Nando’s hiked prices by 8% adding to the cost of fans’ favourite meals.

Consumers are also likely to see the price of top brands such as Heinz beans, Magnum ice-creams and Marmite go up this year.

And Heineken has warned the price of its beers, including Amstel and Birra Moretti, will go up to help it cost with rising costs.

Drinkers have already been warned that the price of a pint could reach £7 in some parts of the country this year.
