Five tricks to cut the cost of a pint as prices soar to £7 in some parts of the UK

Whether you prefer your beer in the pub or your front room, hopefully there’s a deal here for you . . .

DOUBLE UP: With the O2’s Priority app, customers can get two free drinks on Thursdays between 5pm and 8pm at O’Neill’s, Ember Inns or Sizzling Pubs — that’s almost 400 venues nationwide. Choose from Guinness, Carling and bottles of Peroni.

BLAG IT: Local pubs often offer a free pint just for signing up to a newsletter, so it’s worth having a search online for your area. As for the national chains, it’s not quite a pint, but sign up to the All Bar One newsletter at allbarone.co.uk/signup and get a complimentary classic cocktail.

SUPER DEALS: Check your supermarket for bargains. Asda is running a deal where you can get three packs of beer for £21 on selected brands. With prices up to £10 a pack when bought separately, that’s a potential saving of £9. Tesco has a three-for-£5 deal on 660ml bottles of Cobra, Staropramen and Moretti, usually £2 each.

TOP SWAP: Ditch big brands for own-label and save. For example, swap Brewdog’s Punk IPA, £2.25 for a 440ml can at Tesco, for Anti-Establishment IPA from Aldi, £1.59 for the same size.

CAPITAL SAVINGS: With the cost of a pint in London set to be the most expensive in the country, customers should download the Dusk app. It works by suggesting places to visit near to where you are, with many of the venues offering a free drink as an incentive to pop in. Londoners can also go on website Reddit and check out one user who has gone viral for creating a map that shows the cheapest pint of

Carling available at the Wetherspoons near you.

  • Prices correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
