Virgin Media TV customers usually get more than 100 channels as standard but there are slightly more as you go up a package.

These include terrestrial channels as well as news, music, kids and some sports content.

Its standard Big package has 109 channels, Bigger customers get 180 and Ultimate Oomph users get 208.

Customers can also pay extra for an entertainment and documentary add-on or entertainment and lifestyle, which give access to channels such as Sky History, Comedy Central and MTV.

These are £7 extra but the second will cost £5 if you add both.

So customers could pay an extra £12 per month on top of their normal TV and broadband deal to access more content.

But many of these channels are being offered for free to customers this month.

Customers can enjoy popular channels including Comedy Central Extra, Crime & Investigation, MTV and Sky History.

That means telly addicts can watch top shows like Impractical Jokers on Comedy Central Extra or Great Escapes with Morgan Freeman on Sky History.

A range of top Asian channels will also be made available from the popular Asian Mela pack.

All of the channels and on demand programming will be available for all TV customers between Tuesday February 1 and Tuesday March 1.

The full line up of extra channels includes:

  • Comedy Central HD (Ch132),
  • Comedy Central +1 (Ch133)
  • Comedy Central SD (Ch181)
  • Comedy Central Extra (Ch182)

Virgin Media had a similar initiative last October when it made 13 premium Kids TV channels free during half term.

It comes as Virgin Media is set to hike bills for customers from March.

The provider has warned that millions of customers could be set to pay as much as £56 a year more.

Virgin Media customers have reported being able to get discounts when contacting the company.

One Virgin customer managed to save as much as £264 a year on their broadband bill simply by asking.

Another customer used the price hike email they were sent as a trigger to get them searching for better deals, and they managed to save £210 as a result.
