THE number of unemployed Brits has shrunk according to new data from the Office for National Statistics.

But as inflation starts to bite, wages are falling too.

As many as 184,000 people have been added to company payrolls nationally in the last month, according to tax data from December.

It means that staff numbers are 1.4% above the level in February 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

But the latest data on pay rises suggest they are only at 4.2% which is less than inflation currently at 5.1%.
