BURGER KING is launching vegan nuggets in a first for UK fast-food chains.

The new meat-free menu item will be available nationwide from tomorrow, January 5, and foodies can grab them in restaurants or order them for delivery.

The fast food giant has partnered up with The Vegetarian Butcher to create the meat alternative that is certified as 100% vegan by Vegan Society.

The product is made from soy and plant protein, and mimics the taste and texture of meat.

From tomorrow, you’ll be able to buy six nuggets for £3.29, nine pieces for 3.99, or 20 for £4.99.

Prices may vary depending on location though.

The golden goodies are yet another addition to Burger King’s vegan and plant-based menu.

It already launched the plant-based Rebel Whopper burger in January 2020, and the Vegan Royale burger back in April 2021.

But the plant-based Whopper was cooked on the same grill as meat meaning it wasn’t suitable for vegans- only flexitarians or meat-minimalists.

The new vegan nuggets will swerve cross-contamination issues though, and are suitable for all meat-free diets.

The new addition to the menu comes as Burger King pledges to make its menu 50% meat-free by 2030 in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 41%.

Burger King is not alone in launching a new plant-based option this month.

Asian food chain Wagamama has already made 50% of it’s menu vegan and today added vegan fish and chips.

New dish Tempura F-ish and Bang Bang Yaki-imo is a Japanese inspired take on the British classic, fish and chips.

Dominos is also set to expand its vegan range from today and has announced the launch of its new Vegan Friendly, PepperoNAY Pizza.

Also jumping on the vegan bandwagon is Subway, and they are adding two new options to their plant based menu.

The first is the Tastes Like Chicken Tikka sub, a new spice-inspired twist on the original roast-chicken inspired T.L.C.

The second is the Tastes Like Steak sub – a totally new menu option being trialled in 350 stores during Veganuary.

McDonalds last year launched it’s long-awaited McPlant burger while Greggs introduced a vegan festive bake on to its Christmas menu to join it’s much-lauded vegan sausage roll.

You can now get a bottomless pigs in duvets brunch – and it’s vegan!
