Brits popping out over the weekend noted Asda, Morrison’s, Tesco and Co-op had all offended, stocking up on chocolate eggs and currant buns before we have even hit 2022.

Social media users questioned the point of seasons and accused chains of “rampant consumerism”.

Andrew McClure tweeted “Co-op, seriously?” alongside a snap of hot cross buns bearing the label “Happy Easter”.

George T said: “It looks like Creme Egg ice cream is back and Co-op is getting the Easter stuff out.”

Another user posted a picture of Oreo eggs, Creme Eggs and Mini Eggs in an Asda store.

One bewildered shopper posted on Christmas EVE: “Waitrose already has the Easter display out. On Christmas Eve.”

Another user, Sarah, also fumed at Waitrose, writing: “Not Waitrose stocking the shelves with Easter Eggs on Christmas Eve. I will scream.”

Dakeb joked: “Just popping to Asda to get some Easter Eggs, back soon.”

Darren moaned: “The rampant consumerism is real lol.”

Another user wrote: “Live scenes from Waitrose Wallingford. Happy Easter everyone,” alongside a snap showing Creme Eggs on shelves.

Another wrote: “P*** off Tesco it’s the 27th December, Christmas not Easter.”

Sky said: “Seriously Tesco, that’s get over Xmas first and get rid of the flab before we start stuffing Easter.”

Patrick Rowles jibed: “According to Asda it’s Easter Sunday.”

And Galina Varese joked: “Happy Easter! (According to Waitrose).”

Easter is not for another four months, with treats like Easter Eggs usually released in the spring time.

Mini Eggs are available year-round, with Creme Eggs hitting shelves on Janury 1 – but they’re not usually in Easter displays just yet.

Next year Easter falls on Sunday, April 17 – 111 days, 2664 hours or 159, 840 minutes from now.
