On October 1, the average household bill rose from £1,971 a year to £2,500 under the government’s energy price guarantee.
But today, new Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced that the cap will only last until April next year.
It could mean millions will see their energy bills soar once the guarantee is up, but what will replace it has not yet been decided.
How much you pay will depend on how much energy you use.
