Plusnet customers to lose 22 channels including BTSport from November – how to cancel for free NOW

PLUSNET is getting rid of its YouView service in November, meaning current customers will lose access to 22 channels including BTSport.

Anyone new joining the provider since January hasn’t been able to use the service either since it began the process of scrapping the broadband package.

If you’re a Plusnet customer, from November 1 you won’t have access to the 15 channels that aren’t Freeview, that were previously available.

Plus if you were also signed up to BT Sport, which housed another seven channels, that will be switched off too.

You’ll also no longer be able to pause and record live TV and any existing recordings you might have had saved will be deleted as well.

It doesn’t mean you’re left without any telly though, as you can still watch regular channels on your YouView box, and you’ll still be able to get onto Netflix or Amazon Prime if you had it (or similar) set up on the service.

But it’s worth keeping in mind that any technical support will be switched off from the date.

That means Plusnet won’t fix or replace your YouView box if anything goes wrong.

The channels disappearing include CNN, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, Eurosport, MTV, and National Geographic, plus more that customers accessed for £5 a month on top of their broadband package.

Plus anything available from the £15.69 a month BTSport service will be lost from the date too.

But the changes mean your last YouView payment will be taken this month, and no more payments will be taken from customers who had the service beyond October 1.

But you can still use and watch the extra services for another month until they’re switched off.

The change will take place automatically so you don’t need to do anything to leave the YouView package, but some customers may be keen to get out of regular contracts now that the services are limited.

I’m with Plusnet, how do I cancel?

Plusnet started contacting its customers about the changes on August 17, according to Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert and in doing so, told them they had just under a month to cancel penalty free.

You can cancel your broadband and TV contract without any extra charges within 30 days of being notified about the YouView TV change.

That means there’s not long to make the switch if you have already been notified.

Otherwise you’ll be charged an early termination fee if you go on to cancel before your regular contract is up.

What if I still want BTSport or similar?

You can still access BTSport and the other channels lost in the change by switching to other streaming deals or broadband packages.

It’s worth shopping around as you could find a good deal elsewhere, but be wary of leaving Plusnet too soon or you’ll face the termination charges.

You can subscribe to the BTSport App for £15.69 a month to continue accessing the same content, but it can only be viewed on your tablet, Xbox, Playstation, Apple TV or Samsung TV, or via a smartphone.

Or, for the same price, you can have BTSport added to your Sky box.

You’ll have to continue paying your broadband bills on top of these though.

We’ve reached out to Plusnet for comments on the changes and will update this page with the latest.

Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert previously said that the best way to get a genuinely good deal is to “pounce on short-lived promo deals.”

Customers also faced a £30 a year bill hike earlier in the year after Plusnet axed its popular discount line rental scheme.

It was only last year that Plusnet agreed to move vulnerable out of contract customers onto cheaper deals, along with Sky and EE.
